1 Understand Docking vs Port Replicator

Before connecting peripherals, understand the difference between docking stations and port replicators.

Docking Station

  • Single cable connection
  • Provides extra ports
  • May include PCIe for graphics
  • Often has own power supply

Port Replicator

  • Simple port expansion
  • Uses existing ports
  • No enhanced functionality
  • Usually bus-powered
Exam Tip: Docking stations provide enhanced functionality (like dedicated GPU support), while port replicators simply duplicate existing ports. Know the difference!

Docking Configuration Complete!

Your laptop is now connected to all peripherals through the docking station.

Benefits of Docking Stations:
  • Single-cable desk connection
  • Extended display support
  • Wired network for stability
  • Full-size peripherals
  • Laptop charging through dock
